Tips for using a tablet in the workplace
Similar to our previous articles on using office 365 wherever you are, it is just as important to see the productivity in using office 365 however you can. The power of the cloud might seem like a dry topic now, but it is as amazing as ever – we couldn’t work without it.
The workplace is becoming more and more mobile, with phones becoming more like tablets, tablets getting more like laptops and vice versa, we must adapt to this in all industries and professions. In most workplaces you’ll be familiar with the ‘hot-desk’, it is always a pain to get the laptop and all equipment out of the bulky laptop bag – tablets avoid this by being not much bigger than a notebook.
Of course, the type of device depends on how appropriate it is and how much it really helps you. At Cloud Business, we have a variety of ways of working at different times to make our work more effective and productive. The technical and support team need a desktop, whilst the sales team do a great job with a tablet and a phone.

Using your laptop with the screen open while someone is presenting to you can create barriers between the candidates at the meeting. I find having a tablet reduces these barriers and at the same time decreases distractions when you know someone else is sharing your screen. We all have that email that just cant wait, but you’re wasting your time in that meeting if you’re not listening anyway.
If you have a tablet you need to make sure that you are making use of all the tools that are available to you. Apps are a good example of making the most of your tablets so that it works better and quicker than your laptop could. You can get apps for productivity, time management and of course the Office suite – most of these link up to other devices so you can pick up exactly where you left off seamlessly. This also means that you don’t have to take more than one device wherever you go. For me this means when I travel to shows or meetings I only need my Surface (which fits in my handbag) and I can work as if I’m in the office.
My tablet makes my work with the rest of the team a lot easier when I am away from the office. I need to be available to the rest of the team and this way I can be. James Butler CEO Cloud Business
Alongside the programs such as SharePoint and OneDrive, you have the ability to file share seamlessly. You can do this through the apps or Office 365 portal on any device, but physical maneuverability of a tablet is great in the office which makes it easier to keep talking to people wherever you are so you don’t lose any of your valuable time.
